‘I thought he was charming, lovely and down to earth’

The temperatures were at a “Soar-ing” 25 degrees in Penygraig as Prince William headed up the valley to have a nose around the impressive community centre and Valleys Kids base.
After being treated to some breakdancing at Pen Dinas, the prince was given a demonstration of “armchair aerobics” by some of the older members of the centre, who enjoy their exercise and coffee mornings at the Soar Centre.
Local school children were also in high spirits as they waited in the sun for the 25-year-old royal, and their patience paid off as he made the effort to speak to nearly each and every one on the front line.
On the tour of the centre, which was actually opened by Prince Charles in 1987, William got to view pictures of the centre, both now and periodically since it was built in 1832.
A soldier pal of Prince Harry was beaten senseless outside Windsor Castle days after he returned from Afghanistan. Good Samaritan David Land, 19, intervened when he saw a man grappling with a woman in the street.
The man turned violently on him, bashing David so hard that he was left with facial injuries including a shattered cheekbone. Cavalryman David, a Windsor-based Blues and Royals comrade of Harry, had been due to receive a campaign medal from Princess Anne hours after he was attacked. But instead of parading alongside the Prince, he was having emergency treatment in hospital.
An Army pal said: “It’s a sad reflection on modern Britain that you can spend six months dodging bullets and roadside bombs in Afghanistan, then get back home and be beaten senseless in your own country.
“Harry was as gutted as anyone to hear what happened to him.
With her poised good looks, Kate Middleton is a remarkably durable presence in the life of Prince William.
But while the couple give every appearance of being happy enough, they lack the passion of Prince Harry's relationship with Chelsy Davy.
What surprises courtiers is that unlike Chelsy, who has made a life for herself without her royal beau by studying at Leeds University, Kate remains content to do next to nothing except for being "on station" with William.
"She has no job, does no work and takes endless holidays," says one figure. "No wonder they call her 'Waity Katie'."
From boozing to bowler hats: Prince Harry recovers from late night to smarten up for military parade

Marching along in his bowler hat, he looked as fresh and alert as a young soldier should. Few would have guessed that just hours earlier Prince Harry had bowled out of a nightclub, slightly more bleary-eyed.
Anyone else who looked as he did at 3.30am - dishevelled and with his ginger hair standing on end - would have wanted to spend their Sunday in bed.
But not Harry. However bad he might have felt, the third-in-line to the throne did not let it show. The prince, 23, a newly promoted lieutenant in the Blues and Royals, arrived promptly for yesterday's annual Cavalry Memorial Parade in Hyde Park.
Friends say that his night at London's Boujis was just his second big partying session since returning from Afghanistan in March.
They said he had matured "tremendously" after securing his long-held dream to serve in a war zone. The remembrance parade is also a reunion for former and serving soldiers. Suits and bowler hats are worn to reflect the "proper order of dress" which applied before the First World War.
Fred Collingwood, who served with the Blues and Royals, said he was proud to have Harry in the ranks.
He added: "The nice thing about the man is that there's nothing pretentious about him, he's a soldier, he never shies away from a member of his regiment."
Prince William has made his first official visit to the West Midlands as guest of honour at a sports event. He visited the Walsall Gala Baths for the English Schools' Swimming Association's (Essa) 2008 Water Polo Championships.
The prince, who is patron of Essa, also spent time posing for photographs and talking to the crowds of people who had gathered outside. He also signalled the start of two of the matches on Saturday. Arriving by police escort, the prince was met outside the baths by the Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands Paul Sabapathy, and High Sheriff of the West Midlands Byron Head.
He shook hands with Walsall residents who lined the streets to meet him and told the crowd: "Hello, how is everything? Sorry to keep you waiting."
John Beddoe, Essa Honorary treasurer and trustee, said: "Really the whole thing hinges on William taking part in our championships when he was at Eton.
"We wrote to him, then got an invite to Clarence House to make a presentation and he became our patron in 2007.
"This is the first time we have had a patron since we were formed in 1949 and what a patron to have."
The rebranding of Princess Chelsy: Prince Harry's girlfriend ditches the miniskirts and Red Bull as she prepares to meet The Queen
May 10, 2008 From: Daily Mail
It will undoubtedly be the most intriguing Royal wedding of recent years.
But when Peter Phillips gets married this Saturday his beautiful bride Autumn Kelly will have to compete with another bewitching blonde for his family's attention because, at his nuptials, Chelsy Davy will be formally introduced to the Queen for the first time.
And as Peter's bride makes history as the first Canadian to marry into the monarchy, Prince Harry's girlfriend will make her own entrιe into the Royal inner circle.
The 22-year-old is excitedly awaiting the occasion and hopes it will signal the start of her new life as a prospective princess, shrugging off her reputation as a scantily-clad party girl.
As the Windsors prepare to embrace Chelsy as one of their own, she is adopting a more discreet style with advice from Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton.
He may have returned from battle, but royal soldier Prince Harry's mind is clearly still on the front line.
The young warrior was spotted carrying out a bit of close-quarter reconnaissance at a military display in London.
After a quick eyes right, his gaze seemed to settle on a shapely young lady standing just a few feet away. Perhaps he was checking if she was wearing any medals.
Harry, 23, was at St Paul's for a special salute to Britain's wounded war heroes.
One onlooker smiled: "He certainly seemed to be distracted by something - I can't think what."
Luckily, Harry's girlfriend Chelsy Davy wasn't around - or he might have ended up getting his marching orders.
