A night out with Harry: A fight at the club, drinking until 5am, and a kiss for party girl Natalie
Daily Express
29 June 2006
By Richard Palmer and Tom Wainwright
PRINCE Harry partied past dawn yesterday with a TV presenter who refused to go home until he gave her a kiss.
Natalie Pinkham returned to a basement flat to demand the 21year-old Prince said goodnight to her properly.
She refused to leave until Harry had granted her wish. “Oh Harry, give us a kiss,” she said. He replied: “Oh, not here,” and she went down the steps again to embrace him.
Natalie, 28, who is currently hosting ITV’s World Cuppa, was among a number of pals who partied until 5am with the third-in-line to the throne at the London home of his former equerry Mark Dyer.
They went to his flat after a boozy night out at Boujis nightclub ended when a brawl broke out. Among the party was model Coralie Robinson.
But Harry’s girlfriend Chelsy Davy, who flew to Britain last week to be with him for a few days, was nowhere to be seen as the Prince and his friends drank and played loud music in Mr Dyer’s flat in the early hours.
Harry, who was also said to have chatted up a Page 3 girl during the evening, left Boujis at 3am shortly after the fight erupted outside between bouncers and a group of men who were trying to get into the club. Harry and a friend drove with a police bodyguard to the flat of Mr Dyer, a former Welsh Guards officer, while four others, including Ms Pinkham, went there in a taxi. Natalie, who famously kissed England batsman Kevin Pieterson after the Ashes series victory over Australia, has been a companion of Harry’s since 2002 after meeting him at a rugby match with her former boyfriend, England rugby player Matt Dawson.
The Prince was once said to be infatuated with her and sent her flirtatious text messages. The pair holidayed together and both Harry and his brother William were said to have attended her 26th birthday party.
Natalie, who dated Pieterson for several months, confirmed that she had been at the party with Harry. She said: “It was a good night out but I’m back to work today. Thank you for calling but I don’t want to talk about it.”
Natalie had left Mr Dyer’s flat at around 5am and was driven home to nearby Fulham by one of the Prince’s police minders after running down to get her goodnight kiss from Harry.
When she reappeared at the top of the steps a moment later, she told one of the officers that she lived nearby but was “quite drunk” and was not sure exactly how to get home.
He promptly called a colleague over who gave her a lift home in a Range Rover. Harry left the flat an hour later in another police car.
Mr Dyer, who has acted as an unofficial mentor to Harry and William, insisted that the young Prince was still dating Chelsy Davy.
“Natalie is a friend of mine and a friend of Harry’s. It was just a friendly kiss goodnight,” he said.
“No doubt everyone will try to turn it into some sort of love triangle between Harry, Chelsy and Natalie because that’s what sells more papers but they are just friends.”
Harry was on two days leave from Bovington camp in Dorset, where he is training to be an armoured reconnaissance troop leader in the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals regiment.
A Ministry of Defence official said the Prince would not be in trouble with senior officers as long he turned up for training at Bovington this morning.
“Harry has just finished a six-week signals course and he’s just about to start a driving and maintenance course. He’ll be fine as long he’s back early in the morning,” he said.
Blasted by Chelsy and dad for night with Nat ’n Coralie
by MAZ PARTASIDES
PARTY boy Prince Harry was read the riot act by his dad and girlfriend after his latest boozy night on the town.
He received the rollicking from Prince Charles and Chelsy Davy following another series of embarrassing headlines. Flirty Harry, 21, spent the evening dancing with former Daily Star glamour girl Coralie Eichholtz, 25.
He was ushered out of the exclusive Boujis nightclub in South Kensington, London, by his minders when a bloody brawl broke out.
Then he was caught having a snog with his one-time love target, TV babe Natalie Pinkham, 28, as they emerged from a party. Prince Charles, 57, blasted Army officer Harry for dragging the Royal Family through the mud again.
A Royal source revealed last night: “Yes, Harry is a young man and he likes to have a laugh. But he is also a prince and with the title comes responsibility.
Rowdy
“There is a sense that he should try and curb the rowdy public nights. Charles doesn’t particularly enjoy waking up to find his son in the headlines.
“Harry might be enjoying his nights out but a lot of the other royals aren’t.”
But after a dressing-down from Charles – said to be reminiscent of 64-year-old Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous head-to-head “hairdryer” tongue-lashings – he received another mauling from cheesedoff Chelsy, 21.
The blonde student had flown in from South Africa for a romantic break with Harry before he was due to go back to Army life yesterday with the Blues and Royals cavalry regiment.
But the source added: “If you fly all that way to be with the one you love it’s a bit of a kick in the teeth to see them living it up with another girl.
“It’s even worse if you know they once had a bit of a thing for that girl.”
Harry was said to be infatuated with Natalie two years ago, before he started dating Chelsy.
Rumours of a Royal fling peaked when he invited her on a trip to Botswana.
But Natalie, who fronts ITV4’s Sport’s World Cuppa, has always denied any romance.
She said: “We’re just mates and have been for years.
“He’s in a relationship and the idea of anything else is ridiculous.”

SOCCER-mad Prince Harry will miss the big match tomorrow — as a penalty for his night of shame at a nightclub.
He will spend his two days’ Army leave trying to patch things up with love Chelsy Davy, 21.
She was furious after Harry went to a London club with old flame Natalie Pinkham on Tuesday while she was seeing pals. To make up, Harry will take Chelsy on a romantic weekend break in the country.
And as Chelsy is not keen on football, she will have no desire to spend her Saturday afternoon watching England.

A SANDHURST instructor who helped train Princes Harry
and William yesterday admitting killing a cop.
Staff Sergeant Steven Graham — who was drunk and under
arrest — yanked the handbrake of a police car as it
was doing 70mph.
The vehicle careered out of control and landed on its
roof, killing popular beat policeman PC Joe Carroll,
46.
Graham, 39, yesterday admitted manslaughter and was
told he will be jailed when sentenced later.
The PC’s widow Caroline, 46, was in court and later
said in a statement: “Joe Carroll, my vibrant and
fun-loving husband, was killed because of a selfish
act. Steven Graham was thoughtless and foolish.
“He did not think of the consequences of his actions.
“He now has time to contemplate the error of this.
“My hopes, dreams and plans for the future died with
Joe. I am slowly reforming my life.”
Twice-married Graham had been arrested for breach of
the peace shortly before the crash after a row with
his ex-girlfriend at Hexham, Northumberland.
There were no holding cells in the town so PC Carroll
and Inspector Brian English put him in a patrol car to
take him to a station at Newcastle.
But a few miles down the A69 dual-carriageway, Graham
leant forward from the back seat and grabbed the
handbrake.
It normally takes six clicks to engage it, an earlier
hearing was told.
But Graham pulled it with such force it did 17 clicks.
The car swerved and turned over. Inspector English and
Graham suffered only minor injuries. But the vehicle
landed on a raised metal manhole cover that caused PC
Carroll’s fatal injuries.
The policeman was a hugely popular local bobby on his
rural beat around Bellingham, Northumberland. He lived
nearby with teacher Caroline.
The couple met as students and were both devout
Christians.
PC Carroll’s funeral was at Newcastle’s St Nicholas
Cathedral because no church in Bellingham was big
enough. He had been a cop for 24 years.
Graham denied assaulting Inspector English in the
seconds before the crash. Judge David Hodson ordered
it to lie on file at Newcastle Crown Court.
The soldier was a signals expert while Harry was at
the Berkshire military academy. He was also there when
William started his training. Graham will be sentenced
following psychiatric and pre-sentence reports.
According to today's Daily Star, 20-year-old Chelsy
arrived at London's Heathrow Airport yesterday with
only a canvas holdall on her shoulder and a pale pink
handbag.
This is the first time Chelsy and Harry have been
reunited since enjoying a long period of time
together, including a holiday in South Africa, in the
weeks after Harry's passing out parade at Sandhurst on
April 12th.
However, Chelsy stays close to the Prince's heart,
even when the two are thousands of miles apart. When
he stripped off at a polo match recently one of the
pair of eternity rings the loving couple bought at a
market in Cape Town was hung on a string around
Harry's neck.
Such is the 21-year-old Prince's devotion to his
girlfriend he even wanted to hire a cottage close to
the Royal Armoured Corps Centre in Bovington, Dorset,
where he's currently embarked on a four-month training
course to become a troop commander.
The Prince's idea was that the cottage in nearby
Lulworth would be a love nest for himself and Chelsy
when she visits Britain. However, the plan was
thwarted by military chiefs who were unhappy at the
idea of the Prince isolating himself from the rest of
his regiment.
As a military source explained: "Harry had been making
enquiries about renting a cottage for him and Chelsy,
to provide a secluded love nest where they could meet
privately while he was on the course."
"But when the top brass got to hear of it, they had a
word in Harry's ear and told him he should stay inside
the camp, in the interests of group morale and his own
security."

Harry puts the boot in it
A playful kick for bodyguard who helped prince with his footwear
Daily Mail (2)
By Rebecca English Royal Correspondent
PRINCE Harry couldn’t resist putting the boot in when a royal protection officer came to his aid. The 21-year- old prince had trouble getting his tight, knee-high footwear off after a polo match on Sunday and asked for someone to give him a hand.
Ever attentive, his personal bodyguard quickly stepped in, grabbing Harry’s heel and gently easing the brown leather boot off, exposing the third- in- line- to- thethrone’s garish pair of mismatched striped socks.
His efforts were rewarded, however, with a playful kick on the bottom by laughing Harry, sending him staggering forward, boot still in hand. ‘Harry gave him a fair push but it was all very light-hearted,’ said one onlooker. ‘He seems to have a very good relationship with his protection officers. In fact the officer couldn’t stop laughing.’
Army officer Harry took a day off from tank training with The Blues and Royals at Bovington, Dorset, to play in the Calcot Manor Hotel Cup at Beaufort Polo Club close to his father’s home.
Watched by friends including his cousin Zara Phillips and her England rugby star boyfriend Mike Tindall, the prince led Team Highgrove to victory, raising thousands for the Countryside Foundation for Education which helps to raise awareness of rural issues in schools.
Team Highgrove was formed by Harry’s father, Prince Charles. After his decision to retire from the sport last year his sons agreed to take on his charitable commitments. Harry, in particular, is a promising player.
The officer pulls, while Harry plants the other foot on his backside The boot is finally off, and the officer staggers forward after Harry’s shove

Charles, William & Harry Support Camilla In Her Moment of Grief
Princes Charles, William and Harry were on hand (Friday) to offer sympathy and support for Camilla at the funeral of her father, Major Bruce Shand.
This is the first time Camilla has appeared in public since the father she adored died at the age of 89 on Sunday morning.
Although a Clarence House statement said the Duchess's father died of "natural causes" it had long been reported that he was battling cancer, having already successfully fought the disease.
Even in her moment of grief, Camilla was the focus of media attention, the first coverage of the funeral appearing in tonight's London Evening Standard, no doubt to be followed by yet more images and reporting in the weekend papers.
The Duchess of Cornwall was joined by all of the immediate members of her royal family, her own children, Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes and their partners, as well as Camilla's sister Annabel Elliot and her brother, Mark Shand.
The funeral took place at Trinity Church in Stourpaine, Dorset, close to the Major's home on his daughter Annabel's estate.
Although Prince Charles had a room especially fitted out for his father-in-law for the times he wished to stay over at Clarence House, it was in Dorset that the Major spent much of his time following the death of his wife Rosemary in 1994.

It would be understandable if Prince Harry feels more than a little aggrieved today.
On Wednesday evening he joined older brother William and his girlfriend, Kate Middleton, at a Kensington nightclub where all three embarked on a marathon drinking session. But guess who's image and name it is that makes today's headlines?
According to today's Daily Mirror, 21-year-old Harry joined William and Kate (who is also pictured looking a little drunk, although this image is much smaller) at an unnamed nightclub in Kensington.
According to the paper the royal party embarked on, in the journalist's words, a "late-night drinking binge".
William, Kate and Harry left the club at 3.30am, despite the fact the two Princes had to be on duty early on Thursday morning in preparation for the thanksgiving service for the Queen at St. Paul's Cathedral which began at 11am.
Not for the first time, Harry comes off worse in terms of the Press coverage, with William managing once again not to be 'caught out' by the photographers. Although he has been pictured leaving nightclubs, at times a little worse for wear, as today it almost always Harry whose image is plastered across the papers with any accompanying 'blame'.
Myself, I do wonder if the "bad boy Harry" stories aren't well and truly sensationalised. Yes, he's had his problems and troubles. We all know that.
However, having watched, as I'm sure many of you did, the recent Ant and Dec interview with the three Princes, my own thought was that it was William, not Harry, who came across as much more confident and outgoing (perhaps even louder). Harry seemed very quiet in comparison to his very exuberant brother.
Even royal correspondents have claimed that Harry has been stuck with the tag of 'rebel Prince' because he, unlike William, doesn't hide his behaviour - i.e. William is wise enough not to get 'caught'.
The older Prince appears to be more canny and perhaps even far more protected by the Palace system thanks to his role as future King.
After all, every royal generation has had the seemingly obligatory 'rebel', such as Margaret and Diana and, going back further, King Edward VIII.
There must be many times, however, when Prince Harry feels he can simply do nothing right.

The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince William are to miss the Trooping the Colour parade for the Queen's official 80th birthday tomorrow.
Camilla is grieving for her father Major Bruce Shand who died last Sunday. His funeral took place today. Meanwhile William is training at Sandhurst.
A Clarence House spokesman said: "The Duchess will be at home with her family. William is at Sandhurst. They work Saturday morning, so he will be doing something military."
The 23-year-old Prince and his stepmother shared a carriage at Trooping last year, and Camilla made her first appearance on the famous Buckingham Palace balcony.
Prince Harry, who is training to be a Troop leader in the Blues and Royals, will ride in the first barouche - an 18th century landau finished in royal Claret formerly used by the Queen Mother.
He is set to be wearing military dress at the Parade for the first time.
The 21-year-old, known as Cornet Wales, will be dressed in the Blues and Royals' No 1 (blues) uniform.
He will also wear the Jubilee medal given to him by his grandmother the Queen during the Golden Jubilee.
Harry will ride in the carriage with his uncle the Duke of York and cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
In the second barouche will be the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Alexandra and the Princess Royal's husband Rear Admiral Timothy Laurence.
Colonel of the Welsh Guards the Prince of Wales and Anne in her role as Gold Stick in Waiting and Colonel of the Blues and Royals will ride on horseback with the Queen's carriage procession.
The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, who will be in his bearskin hat as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, will travel in Queen Victoria's 1842 Ivory Mounted Phaeton.
The carriage will be drawn by an 11-year-old Irish Grey Gelding called Daniel and a 23-year-old Hungarian Grey Gelding called Windhoek.
Postilion John Nelson will guide the carriage dressed in Full State Postilion Livery.

The Queen's grandsons were clearly delighted to be reunited with members of their extended family on Thursday. William and Harry, who are both currently undergoing military training, bestowed an especially warm greeting on their uncles Prince Edward and Prince Andrew, greeting them with a kiss on the cheek.
The rare display of public affectiom came as Wills and his younger brother attended a packed service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral in honour of their grandmother, who turned 80 in April. The boys were among 30 members of the royal family attending the service. Wills, who is currently undergoing military training at Sandhurst, bestows a kiss on Edward, while Blues and Royals trainee Harry salutes Prince Andrew with a peck on the cheek
Afterwards the Queen moved on to nearby Mansion House for a banquet hosted by the Lord Mayor. There she borrowed the phrase of a famous wit to play down the importance of her birthday. "As Groucho Marx once said, anyone can get old – all you have to do is live long enough," she quipped. Her Majesty also paid tribute to Prince Charles and her husband for "all the support they give me each and every day".

Prince Harry is not only the second son of the future
King of England, he is also the third in line for the
top job. You would think that this alone is enough
reason to highlight Harry in a positive light.
He recently began (with the help of Prince Seeiso of
Lesotho) a charity in honour of his mother, Diana. In
May he passed out of Sandhurst Military Academy to
glowing reports of how fine a leader and soldier he
had become. Harry, it seemed, had finally become the
upstanding and honourable young man we all knew he
was. Or so we thought.
No sooner had they waxed lyrical about Harry’s
imminent passing out from Sandhurst, then we read
stories about him out with his mates indulging in lap
dances. The press had a field day telling us that
Chelsy Davy, Harry’s girlfriend of around two years,
was on the war path. Delving a bit deeper we read that
no, Harry hadn’t partook in the nights festivities but
had in fact, declined the offer of a dance from the
“ladies” and chose to instead talk to them about his
Zimbabwean love.
But then again, Harry can be his own worst enemy. At
times he acts more like the spoilt aristocrat that
we’d expect from someone in his position, more so when
you take into consideration his actions in the past.
Let’s highlight a few of those “indiscretions”.
First there was the drugs and alcohol scandal. Harry,
at the tender age of 17, had “experimented” with
marijuana and drank at the local pub. We were
bombarded with story after story about how the young
man had indulged in drugs and alcohol and was on a
downward spiral of a life of vices. Harry had become
the royal family’s own “black sheep”.
Even his father, Prince Charles, didn’t escape the
overly excited press. He was accused of not caring
enough and neglecting his young son. Prince William
seemed like the only one to avoid the media barrage of
anti-Harry sentiment. For this indiscretion, Harry
spent time at Rehabilitation Centre to see just what
those vices can do to people.
Then came the accusations that Harry had cheated or
was helped in his art course at Eton College. The
media went into a frenzy and condemned Harry as “thick
like his mother”.
Then Harry was accused of spending too much time on
his “gap year”. He spent some time in Australia
working on a cattle property before traveling to South
Africa and helping highlight the problems in Lesotho.
Harry also spent time in South America playing polo
and back in the UK as a rugby coach to children. Then
came the news of his enrolment in the Army. That’s
where the story gets really interesting.
The positive stories you’d expect when a young man
does an honourable thing like joining the armed forces
didn’t seem to come for Harry. The tabloids instead
tended to focus on Harry's inabilities rather than his
strong points. Time and time again we were told (and
still are today) about Harry’s “intellectual”
shortcomings. He was compared unfairly, to his
brother, who seemed to enjoy the academic side of life
at school and later at university. Poor old Harry. Not
the sharpest knife in the block, but certainly smart
enough to know not to rock the boat.
Now onto one of the most blown out of proportion
stories about Prince Harry. He had enjoyed a night at
the Pangaea Club in London when all hell broke loose.
Not long after departing the club Harry was confronted
with photographers. One photographer allegedly taunted
Harry with unnecessarily mean comments about himself
and his mother. Harry, obviously feeling intimidated
with cameras being shoved in his faced, pushed one of
the photographers away resulting in a cut lip for the
shutterbug in question. No police charges were laid
but Harry received terrible retribution from the
tabloids instead.
Harry then suffered a knee injury which ultimately
delayed his entry into the army. The tabloids asked
why Harry was still able to play polo, yet he was
unable to proceed with his military training. The
negative stories continued with Harry being called
“lazy” “spoilt” and “thick”.
Along came Chelsy Davy. The blonde, buxom Zimbabwean
caused a sensation amongst the media. She wasn’t the
perfect ideal of a princess (unlike Prince William’s
girlfriend Kate Middleton). She was brash, bikini clad
and so very un-British. The press had yet another
field day when they discovered her father’s links
(albeit tenuous) with the Zimbabwean dictator Robert
Mugabe.
We were again bombarded with negative stories but this
time they were about Chelsy. From princess clubs to
sexually explicit phone conversations, Chelsy did it
all, or so we were led to believe. She not only
managed to discredit herself by what she wore but she
also managed to paint a less than flattering picture
of herself by her actions.
Chelsy is like many young women her age. She likes to
party, drink and wear revealing clothes that aren’t
sloanish. She epitomized (to the tabloids anyway) all
that was crass and wrong with the youth of today. She
was likened to a “footballer’s wife”. Most definitely
not the makings of a princess.
To be fair to Harry’s knockers, Harry is not
faultless. His next escapade was all his own doing and
no one can say that he didn’t deserve to be criticized
for it. Harry stupidly wore a swastika armband during
a fancy dress party. Harry had proven his detractors
right.
After a hastily put together apology from Clarence
House and an appearance at the Red Cross’s Tsunami
charity appeal, Harry was still the medias whipping
boy. At every opportunity they reveled in the chance
to negatively report on Harry. The fact his
reoccurring knee injury had delayed his entry into
Sandhurst, didn’t help his cause. Once again, Harry
didn’t have the makings of an army officer, let alone
a prince.
Shamefully, all the while the media continued the
unfair comparison of Harry vs. Wills. Whilst
everything Harry did seemed to be stupid, unthought
through or even immature, his brother faired far
better. Everything Prince William did (and does) met
with annoying levels of approval from a press gallery
that seemed to adore him.
Prince William also appeared in costume at that
fateful party with Harry. Pictures of him in a leopard
costume were offered to the tabloids. Instead of
taking the opportunity to spread their vile content
about Wills, the tabloid bosses seized the opportunity
to continue with their imbalanced reporting of the
royal black sheep. Wills got off with a glowing
reference to his “manhood” (by all accounts the female
party guests and staff were very impressed with his
“kingly” offerings on display in his tight suit). But
once again, Harry was deemed a better target.
Even their choice of girlfriends appears to receive
imbalanced reporting. Chelsy is the party girl, highly
unsuitable, scantily clad, filthy rich and from a less
than pleasing background. Kate meanwhile is everything
that a perfect royal girlfriend should be with a fine
family (rich but not too rich), well educated,
stunning, a fashion sensation (albeit a bit sloanish)
and everything that Chelsy is not.
Yet both girls seem to share more commonalities than
the media would let on. Both are dating princes for a
start. They like to party, shop and enjoy the comforts
of a privileged lifestyle that many of us can only
dream of. Both are well educated and both seem to be
determined to maintain a semblance of normality in
what must seem like a very abnormal time in their
lives. Yet both are not the same in the eyes of the
tabloids.
How can Prince Harry get everything so wrong? He has
professional advisors watching his every move and able
to step in when needed, yet they seem to allow the
press to have a free reign on his image. Prince Harry
is not protected by those who have been employed to
protect him and seems to be at the mercy of the
tabloids and their editors.
Whatever the case may be, there are a lot of people
who are beginning to see the real Prince Harry. The
Harry that they see is a caring, confident and
loveable young man, whose past conflicts have shaped
him in a positive way. People adore him, so why don’t
the tabloids?
But it seems that he simply likes to work hard and
play hard.
For the 21-year-old is to volunteer for one of the
Army's most gruelling challenges - the Parachute
Regiment's Pegasus course, which in terms of physical
and mental strain is second only to induction into the
SAS.
Early next year he will be the first Royal to undergo
the month-long pre-Para course at Catterick which, if
completed, would allow him to go on and do his
parachute training.
If he passes both elements, Harry - who has threatened
to quit the Army unless he is allowed to go to the
front line - will be ready to make low-level parachute
jumps from just 400ft.
He wants to earn the right to wear the Parachute
Regiment's coveted red beret and use this as his
passport into the elite 90-strong airborne unit within
the Household Cavalry.
But the biggest stumbling block is seen as the
notorious pre-Para course known for its gruelling
endurance tests including long-distance runs carrying
packs and weights.
There is also the traditional 'milling' in which each
recruit is expected to fight another soldier for at
least one minute to develop their aggression.
Sandhurst-trained Harry - officially Second Lieutenant
Wales - is currently on a troop commander's course at
the Royal Armoured Corps Centre in Dorset.
Senior Royal sources confirmed to The Mail on Sunday
that Harry would be going on the Pegasus course. One
added: "There is an airborne element to the Household
Cavalry and Prince Harry is likely to join it."
21-year-old Harry has volunteered to take part in the
Parachute Regiment's Pegasus course at Catterick in
North Yorkshire early next year. If he passes this
challenge the Prince will be allowed to progress to a
full parachute-training course, one which could be a
precursor to his ambition to serve as an SAS soldier.
During the pre-Para course, the Prince will be
expected to undertake some of the most ferociously
tough aspects of the course, joining his colleagues on
exhausting treks whilst carrying packs and weights.
According to a Royal source: "There is an airborne
element to the Household Cavalry and Prince Harry is
likely to join it."
Harry is currently in on a troop commander training
course at the Royal Armoured Corps Centre in Dorset in
the South West of England.

The flat waste ground at the end of a once grand driveway may not look much now. But it will soon boast a mansion fit for a King - or even a future King and his bride. According to locals in this small corner of Herefordshire, the neo-Georgian manor house planned for this site is to be Prince William's new home after he marries.
As speculation grows in society circles that William will announce his engagement to long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton at the end of his Sandhurst training in six months' time, many in the Wye Valley have no such doubts.
'This estate is for William and his wife,' said one. 'We all know it and it will be perfect for them.'
There is little doubt that something special is happening on the 900-acre estate in prime countryside between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye. For more than a year, a team of artisans, builders and restorers has been working on Harewood End, bought by the Duchy of Cornwall six years ago along with 11,000 additional acres of land.
Once one of the finest estates in the county, Harewood - not far from Prince Charles's Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire - had been reduced to a sad, crumbling collection of dilapidated farmhouses, cottages and barns. Parkland and formal terraces had been lost under farmland, and the Georgian mansion house - last of a line of grand houses on the site dating from 1324 - was left to rot and finally demolished after serving as target practice for the SAS. An ugly suburban bungalow had replaced its classical outline.
All seemed lost until Charles stepped in to begin the multi-million-pound restoration that will culminate in the building of the new manor house, designed in his favoured Georgian style. Initially, it seemed the Prince's aim was to create a rural version of Poundbury in Dorset - the elegant new town built in the Nineties using traditional materials - which he hoped would become a model development with its reference to historic local properties.
Indeed, tenants have already begun to move in to some of the newly restored buildings - including Home Farm, which has been turned into 'live-work' units geared towards craftsmen and artisans, a successful combination Charles pioneered at Highgrove.
UT locals and, privately, council officials believe the Duchy has a far more romantic vision for Harewood B - that of the first home of the future King and his bride.
Both the Duchy and Clarence House coyly avoid denying outright any suggestion that Harewood will be William's. But a council source said: 'We have always been told by the Duchy that there are no plans for this to be William's home. Yet they always add "at present" or "currently" or "for the foreseeable future", which obviously allows them some latitude in their longer-term plans.
'You don't need to be a property expert to ask why the Prince of Wales would want to spend millions of pounds restoring a historic property in the heart of a huge estate like Harewood, only for it to be put on the letting market. It just doesn't make financial or business sense.'
Plans for the mansion were submitted to Hereford Council two years ago by architect Craig Hamilton, who has worked with the Duchy on several previous restorations.
work(sic) The plans have now been approved and on the farm buildings is almost complete.
The six-bedroom mansion will have its own stables and a pavilion joining these to the main building's north wing. An identical extension at the southern end means there will be plenty of room to house the security necessary for Royal occupation.

On duty...six hours after bender

PRINCE Harry nurses a hangover and brother Wills looks to be suffering too as they celebrate the Queen's 80th birthday hours after a late-night drinking binge.
Harry held his head in one hand while red-faced Wills struggled to keep his eyes open at a thanks-giving service in London yesterday.
William, 23, girlfriend Kate Middleton, 24, and 21-year-old Harry left a nightclub at 3.30am after a marathon session.
Just six hours later the princes were sweltering in morn-ing suits at St Paul's Cathedral.
The Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams led the celebrations for the Queen, who was 80 in April and has her official birthday tomorrow. Among the 2,300 guests were 30 members of the Royal Family.
Also there were Prime Minister Tony Blair, Tory leader David Cameron, Lib Dem leader Sir Menzies Campbell and former Prime Ministers Baroness Thatcher and Sir John Major.
At a lunch afterwards, the Queen joked with her guests, saying: "As Groucho Marx once said 'Anyone can get old - all you have to do is live long enough'."
She also made a topical World Cup quip about the menu, which was chosen after chefs battled it out on TV to cook the perfect dish for the celebration.
She said: "Competitive cooking is a new concept to me - although I understand there are, as yet, no penalty shootouts."
FOOTIE-mad Prince William has suffered a World Cup blow — after Army chiefs made Sandhurst a flag-free zone.
Cars are banned from entering the base displaying England flags.
Patriotic cadets cannot drape the cross of St George out of windows of their quarters — and anyone caught in a football top faces a dressing down.
A source said: “The Commandant takes the view that it is a military school not a holiday camp.
“The academy has strict codes of dress and it prides itself on maintaining the highest standards.
“But it seems a little over the top to ban flags and football tops when the World Cup is on.”
William, 23, is president of the FA and was at Saturday’s England match.
If we make it to the latter stages he will need permission from his superiors to return to Germany.
Brother Harry, 21, has returned from tank training and hung an England flag out of a window at his Highgrove home.
National celebrations marking the Queen's 80th birthday were held today, with a public service of thanksgiving in honour of her personal milestone.
More than 2,300 people, including Prime Minister Tony Blair, military chiefs and multi-faith leaders packed into St Paul's Cathedral in London to commemorate the monarch's landmark.
The Queen was joined by more than 30 members of the Royal Family, including the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and grandsons Princes William and Harry for the religious service.
She became an octogenarian on April 21 and celebrates her official birthday on Saturday.
Security was tight around the cathedral as the dignitaries gathered for the high profile event.
Music by the Band of the Grenadier Guards filled the historic setting as guests were ushered to their seats ahead of the procession of world faith representatives.
The Archbishop of Canterbury was delivering the sermon.
As the Queen arrived, a fanfare was sounded by the State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry.
Prayers were said to give thanks for the Queen's devotion to duty, long years of public service and Christian faith.
The Queen arrived at the Cathedral shortly after 11am accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.
As they reached the top of the steps to the West Door they turned briefly to wave at the gathered crowd.
More than 300 members of the public who had congregated around St Paul's churchyard welcomed the Queen with a light round of applause.
The Queen was wearing a light-coloured patterned cream dress and matching formal hat.
Just seconds before the Queen's arrival, latecomer Dame Shirley Bassey sneaked into a side door of the cathedral.
Several minutes earlier the Prince of Wales arrived with his sons Prince William and Prince Harry.
The royal brothers turned to wave at the crowd before being greeted by the Dean of St Paul's the Very Reverend Dr John Moses.
They were preceded by other members of the royal family including the Duke of York, the Princess Royal and the Earl of Wessex who arrived in a royal coach.
Dozens of office workers took advantage of positions from surrounding buildings to watch the royal visitors arrive.
The Archbishop of Canterbury praised the British monarchy in his sermon as a "way of keeping power human".
Dr Rowan Williams said common loyalty to the monarch helped hold the country together.
He said: "Birthdays are among the most vivid reminders we can have of our common humanity, and our common call to journey through time with each other.
"Today, your Majesty, we give thanks with you simply for the gifts of life and experience - and for the beginning of a new year of challenge; we wish you and Prince Philip, who has so devotedly supported you and all that you have stood for, many more happy years.
"But we also give thanks for a human face to our systems and processes, a human symbol that helps to hold us together. May our thanksgiving strengthen our resolve to resist the great public inhumanities that still menace us all."

Prince William has always been a big fan of football — or what is known as soccer to Americans.
As a young boy William kicked the ball with his mom, the late princess Diana, and his dad Prince Charles, before the divorce.
As a young man, his friends say he is not a great player, but not a bad one either.
Prince William, who also plays rugby and polo, is president of the FA, the football association that selects and sponsors England's team for the World Cup. He succeeded his uncle, Prince Andrew, who used to hold the post. The role is similar to being head of the NFL, except the prince doesn't have to negotiate team contracts. Some fans of the game hope that William will be a good influence on the sometimes unruly sport.
Sports seem to be in the DNA of the British royal family. Younger brother Prince Harry is also a polo and rugby competitor. Prince Charles used to thunder across the polo field until he fell and hurt his shoulder. William's aunt, Princess Anne, represented Britain on the equestrian team at the Olympics. Prince Phillip, the Queen's husband, is an expert carriage driver — though he's had a bad bump or two in the road: He was caught on tape driving his carriage when it turned over. Queen Elizabeth herself has been mad about horses since she was a little girl. She even has a truck driver's license so she can lug her horses around the countryside.
British soccer has sometimes been plagued by scandals, and violence on and off the field. The squeaky clean image of Prince William could be a huge boost.
"He could do a lot," one British man said. "He has got authority, he is young, he is part of the royal family, and he is part of the modern royal family."
But already, there has been some trouble for British fans. Police barred 3,600 people with histories of unruly behavior from attending the World Cup soccer matches under way in Germany. England beat Paraguay in its opening game 1 to 0.
Soccer/football is the national sport in many of the world's countries, including the United Kingdom. Even transplants from England flock to the pubs early in the morning to watch the game. They say that Americans, who have not really embraced soccer they way they have other sports, don't know what they are missing.
"I think America is more about your own sports, baseball and basketball," said Duncan MacLean, while watching the match against Paraguay at Nevada Smith's pub in New York. "When you come to love football, you realize this is the best of all. It breaks down all boundaries, and everyone loves it. I think Americans are very close. You can have a great World Cup and everyone can get behind your team."
MacLean and his friend Dean Smith joined their fellow compatriots for some early morning pints and revelry. They made sure to engage in their pre-game rituals. The pub was packed with fellow Brits.
"We go out the night before and have some drinks," said Smith. "[We] call each other, wear our new castle scarves."
It doesn't hurt the royals to be associated with the grass roots glamour of what fans call "the beautiful game" — and the beautiful men, judging from the media frenzy over England star David Beckham and some of his teammates. They are Britain's sports royalty.
"Prince William can take some dress tips from David Beckham," one British woman said.
"Beckham is better looking than Prince William," said another. "But then, it's Prince William, and they both have the same amount of money."

The young Royals; Prince Williams and Prince Harry acted less then lordly when they appeared at a Charity Boxing Event over the weekend.
The Prince reportedly took off their ties and unbuttoned their shirts while whooping away with the rest of the 700 strong crowd.
They were particularly excited about seeing two female boxers take each other on in the ring.
One fellow boxing enthusiast told the Star: “The two princes were having an awesome time. From what I saw they both went a bit mad for that match with the girls.
“When they came on, you couldn’t keep them back and they raced up to the ring to see them fight.
“There were about 700 people in the room but suddenly they came up to the front and were cheering away, just like ordinary punters.”
Also present at the charity event was Williams’ girlfriend Kate Middleton looking a tad over dressed in a floor length, sapphire blue gown…very posh!
The two young love birds are currently having a new home built on the Harewood Estate in Herefordshire…could we be hearing royal wedding bells anytime soon?

MANCHESTER (Reuters) - England players made a pledge to their future king to bring back the World Cup during a visit by Prince William to a training session on Thursday.
The prince spoke to all the squad, including injured striker Wayne Rooney, at Manchester United's Carrington complex and wished them luck at the finals in Germany.
Prince William, who is president of the Football Association, was clearly a hit with Sven-Goran Eriksson's men, with midfielder Frank Lampard saying the players were left "dumbfounded" by his maturity and presence.
The 23-year-old's natural ease was picked up by winger Joe Cole, who said: "Prince William is a normal down to earth guy who is the future King of England. I thought he was a really nice person."
Speaking later to reporters, Prince William said: "I'm wishing England all the best and am 150 percent behind them as I imagine the rest of the country is."
As for what it would mean for England to win the World Cup, he said: "It's inexplicable. It would be awesome.
"The World Cup brings the whole country together and...there is a feeling of camaraderie as England go through the stages and everyone shares in the same highs and lows and tension. Long may it continue."
Asked if the players had promised to bring the trophy home, he replied: "Yes, they did."
The prince was also hoping for a successful tournament off the pitch, with the behaviour of England fans in Germany.
"On behalf of all the fans I just want to say good luck to England and I hope they all go out there and support the team well -- I've no doubt they will -- and keep the passion up."
At Carrington, the prince watched a practice match and penalties before the group gathered together and lanky striker Peter Crouch performed his 'dancing robot' goal celebration.
A rather sheepish Crouch said: "I got goaded by the lads to do it. He's the future king of England and I've just done a dance in front of him. It's a bit surreal."
Crouch, who hoped he had not looked too embarrassing, said: "It was a pleasure to meet him. He wished us well, was supportive and was telling us he was going to come out for as many games as he can."
Lampard said: "Crouchy broke the ice. It was one of those moments when you need someone with a bit of character to throw something different in and I think Prince William liked it.
"I've got to say I was very impressed with him as a man.
"The responsibility which he carries with himself and the ease which he had talking to the lads was unbelievable. I've got a lot of respect for him.
"We were all dumbfounded by what a special man he looks like he's going to be."
The prince was quizzed by players about why he supports unfashionable Aston Villa, which dates back to watching them in a FA Cup tie with Bolton Wanderers in 1994.
Chelsea's Cole suggested later he should perhaps switch allegiances to his neighbourhood team. "I think Chelsea is his local side, living at Buckingham Palace."
The prince, who will attend England's opening Group B game against Paraguay on June 10 in Frankfurt, also gave his support to a new FA initiative entitled "Get Into Football."
The plan is designed to encourage children and parents, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to get involved in the game at grass roots level.
