PRINCE William today begins Army training in hand-to-hand combat — to become a lean,
mean, KILLING machine.

Wills, 24, will be taught how to butcher the enemy with a dreaded fixed bayonet charge.

And the officer cadet can expect instructors to scream abuse at him — to wind him up into
a bloodthirsty frenzy.

Sandhurst trainee Wills — seen in our mocked-up picture — will have to plunge a 12-inch
bayonet into a sand-filled dummy as he yells: “Kill!”

Exercise Bayonet Point is being held at Castle Martin, West Wales, as part of three days
of training in close-quarters combat.

Last night a Sandhurst source said: “Cadets have to really feel aggressive before making
a charge. Once instructors have finished with Wills he will be a killer.”

LOVESTRUCK Prince Harry has persuaded his dad to allow blonde girlfriend Chelsy Davy to
move into a royal residence.

Prince Charles has provisionally agreed to let her have a flat at Clarence House or
Kensington Palace when she finishes university in South Africa next year.

The 21-year-old beauty is keen to move closer to Harry after graduating.

But the Prince fears she would face intolerable strain if she was forced to live in a
normal flat.

Harry, 22, has told Charles his girlfriend would be under siege from photographers and
vulnerable to stalkers. It is understood the pair, who have been dating for over two
years, will not be sharing a room.

Duty And Army officer Harry will often be away on duty.

But the prospect of an unmarried couple living in the same palace will spark controversy.

Under fire: Prince William at Sandhurst

Prince William has been handed a severe dressing down by senior officers at Sandhurst
after losing his gun during firing practice.

The 24-year-old royal mislaid the powerful machine gun on Friday morning. It is one of
the most embarrassing errors a soldier can be guilty of.

The incident will have serious consequences for the prince who, until now, has proved a
model cadet and is just weeks away from passing-out of the Royal Military Academy near
Camberley, Surrey,

He is said to be in line for the prestigious 'Sword of Honour', awarded to the most
outstanding student of each intake. But losing his gun is a serious black mark on his
record.

William was so concerned that he borrowed a fellow cadet's bicycle and spent almost two
hours pedalling around the countryside campus looking for it.

But he was forced to return to the ranges empty-handed to face, what has been described
as "an absolute rollicking".

Although it was not loaded with live ammunition at the time, the L86 Light Support Weapon
is a fearsome weapon capable of rattling out 775 rounds every minute. It is a more
powerful version of the British Army's standard issue SA80 rifle.

"William was due to spend a day on the ranges in preparation for a major exercise in
Wales this week," said the source.

"He was given his SA80 rifle, the weapon that is personally assigned to him throughout
his time at Sandhurst, but also signed out an LSW as he needed to ensure he was fully
familiarised with it.

"All of the cadets, including the prince, were given a full briefing first thing in the
morning but it seems that he mislaid it sometime after that.

"William was really panicking as he knew he was in serious trouble.

"He even borrowed on of his mate's bike and spent several hours frantically scouring the
academy for it.

"Much to his embarrassment, it was handed in about two hours later by another cadet. I'm
not sure where it was found, but William was still in a lot of trouble."

The source added: "Fortunately there wasn't any live ammunition in the gun as cadets
aren't given any bullets until they are ready to fire on the range. But that wouldn't
have helped him much.

"Losing your weapon is one of the worst mistakes you can make. It's a real shame, though,
if it costs him the Sword of Honour as William is shaping up to be a superb army officer."

William, who is second-in-line-to-the-throne, plans to follow his younger brother into
The Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals regiment if he successfully passes out in
December.

Like Harry, he also hopes to become an armoured reconnaissance troop leader, commanding
around a dozen soldiers and four Scimitar tanks, which are used to scout out the enemy in
the heat of battle - although it is unlikely that the future king will ever see frontline
service.

It is understood that Harry has asked top brass at his barracks in Windsor for the day
off so that he can watch his brother's passing out.

His grand-mother, the Queen, has already agreed to take the ceremony while other senior
royals including his grand-father, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and the Duchess
of Cornwall are also due to attend.

A Sandhurst spokesman tonight confirmed that there had been an incident on the ranges
involving William's gun.

"In fact Officer Cadet Wales's weapon was picked up and used by another cadet who handed
it back a couple of hours later, so it wasn't really missing at all," he said.

On arriving at Sandhurst cadets are each issued with their personal weapon, an SA80
rifle, but will be taught to use a number of other guns, including the L86 Light Support
Weapon.

These are kept in the college's secure armoury and, for security and safety reasons, only
signed out to cadets as and when required.

Following a safety briefing on Friday, William was given his gun which he should have
taken straight up to the firing range and handed straight back once the exercise was over.

Friends reveal the real Chelsy Davy

When Tatler published its list of the world's ten most powerful blondes this month, the
girl in second place came as something of a surprise, particularly to the seasoned
society watchers who treat the glossy magazine's every word as gospel.

Beaten only by media queen Elisabeth Murdoch, the blonde in question was none other than
Prince Harry's girlfriend Chelsy Davy, the pretty young student with a penchant for
partying and, according to Tatler, 'the new face of Royalty'.

That Chelsy should be given such an accolade has caused more than a little comment in the
salons of Chelsea and Kensington. Tatler is not just any magazine, but one whose opinions
genuinely do matter in the rarefied world of the upper classes.

It therefore didn't go unnoticed that Camilla Parker Bowles came only sixth, while the
21-year-old Zimbabwean also beat such society grandees as The Duchess of Westminster and
Lady Bamford.

So how has Chelsy performed this near miraculous transformation from brassy good-time
girl to 'one of us' respectability? What has she done to so alter people's opinions of
her?

The answer, quite simply, is nothing. She is the same girl she was two years ago when she
met Harry after he stopped off to visit friends in South Africa during a trip to work
with AIDS orphans in Lesotho.

It's just that, unfortunately for Chelsy, the real girl is so far removed from the public
perception of her.

According to her close friends and family, and key members of the younger Royal set,
there is much more to Chelsy than the paparazzi pictures imply.

True, she likes a drink - vodka with Red Bull or with lime and lemonade are two favourite
tipples - and she likes to party, but that is not so very different from most people her
age, including her boyfriend. Like him, she also smokes: her favourites are Marlboro
Lights or Peter Styuvesant Lights.

Far from spending her life on an endless round of polo matches and nights out at South
Kensington's Boujis club - a favourite haunt of the young Royals - she is an intelligent,
driven girl who spends much of her days studying and is expected to get a double first in
her philosophy, politics and economics degree from Cape Town University.

This is no mean feat: her course requires her to study logical and critical thought,
international relations, and economic policy and the effects of globalisation. To get a
double first from Cape Town, alma mater of the Nobel prize-winning author J.M. Coetzee,
requires a sharp brain and serious dedication.

While there is much talk about the suitability of Prince William's girlfriend Kate
Middleton as a princess, Tatler quite rightly recognises that it is Chelsy who has the
makings of a very successful modern Royal.

Unlike Kate - whose parents run a successful mail-order business and who grew up in a
solidly middle-class background - Chelsy is used to the trappings of colonial life and is
at ease with the servant culture that makes more modest Britons feel uncomfortable.

She also has an African love of the outdoors which blends seamlessly with the Royal
Family's taste for hunting, shooting and fishing.

One longstanding family friend said: "She's probably never made a cup of tea or a bed in
her life. But she could ride bareback, skipper a speedboat across Kenya's Lake Naivasha
and all the time match the boys drink for drink.

"She's part of the Happy Valley crowd. They have a lot in common with the upper classes.
The bottom line is that these girls are athletic, strong-boned and gorgeous. They have
that extra something that comes from being raised in the bush. They have a big appetite
for life."

According to the friend: "These are the kind of girls who'll sleep under the stars
without bringing a change of underwear, who aren't afraid of spiders and could strangle a
snake. That wins them a lot of respect.

They also share the same education, impeccable manners and privileged outlook on life as
the British aristocracy."

For all that, Chelsy is a very committed student. One fellow undergraduate said: "People
don't realise that Chelsy is incredibly clever. It always amazes us how well she does in
class when you consider that her life is a lot more hectic and complicated than ours.

"But when she is not travelling to see Harry or when he's not over to see her, she is
very diligent and well organised.

"On a typical day at uni, she will begin classes at about 9am and finish between 2pm and
3pm. Her degree is difficult and time-consuming and has been even tougher in this, her
final year.

She will take her final exams in the first two weeks of November so she spends all her
free time in the library working. The library is huge, it's got seven levels and is
flooded with light - it's Chelsy's second home."

The undergraduate added: "Of course she goes out and has a drink sometimes - we all do.
We usually go to bars near campus - Cubana and Sobar in Newlands and Tiger Tiger in
Rondesbosch. But despite what people say she isn't an excessive drinker. She prefers
dancing. We all read these reports about her being completely wild but she's actually
incredibly ladylike."

Chelsy's upturned nose and pouchy cheeks can give her a somewhat spoilt, sullen look. And
there is no denying the fact that she comes from an extremely privileged background.

Her father is a multimillionaire with links to Robert Mugabe's despotic regime in
Zimbabwe and made his fortune through big-game hunting. Chelsy has never wanted for
anything, but friends insist that she is still grounded.

One older acquaintance said: "I was surprised when I met her by how shy she was. She can
look quite tough in pictures, but when you meet her she's rather sensitive.

She blushes easily, in the way that Princess Diana did when she was younger. I'd never
have thought they were alike in any way but Chelsy reminds me of her quite a lot."

Her hair is bottle blonde, her mini-skirts often indecently short, but friends say that
Chelsy is comparatively demure for a girl of her age. One said: "She has never once
mentioned her sex life - she's very private in that way. But we all definitely got the
impression that Harry was her first and only.

"Before he comes to Cape Town or she goes to visit him, it is so sweet to see how excited
she gets. She's really down to earth and unassuming. In all the time I've known her,
she's never once tried to play on her celebrity. If anything, she doesn't like the fuss
it causes. When she's at uni, a lot of people try to take photos of her with their
phones, which really upsets her.

"When people meet her they usually admit to being quite shocked because she's nothing
like they imagined. She is just a very sweet and supportive friend to everyone. The image
of her back in England is very different to the student we know in Cape Town.

"She's a very typical student. She loves to shop but doesn't go over the top - her
parents don't give her free rein to spend.

"She likes buying accessories, especially necklaces, at Cavendish, a shopping mall near
the house she shares with her brother Sean. She also has lunch most days at Cavendish.
She doesn't really watch what she eats, but she has a lovely figure. Although she's a
meat eater, like everyone else at uni it's mainly muffins and cappuccinos."

It is this previously hidden side to Chelsy that Buckingham Palace will undoubtedly try
to bring to the fore when she moves to Britain next year to begin a a postgraduate degree
in politics at Bristol University. According to friends, Harry and Chelsy have always
planned to be together.

A long-distance relationship is hard for any couple. But for a Prince and his girl,
constantly in the glare of the media spotlight, it is nigh on impossible.

One close South African friend said: "Reports about Harry flirting with girls back home
really get to Chelsy. She knows that she has to trust him when they are so far apart, but
it's hard for her when she reads about all the pretty girls who throw themselves at him."

The friend admitted that Chelsy 'puts on a tough front', but added: "She's really
sensitive and self-conscious. She's quite a girl's girl and spends a lot of time talking
to girlfriends about make-up and new beauty products. She loves to look her best. When
she came over to Sandhurst for Harry's passing-out ball, she had about eight dresses to
choose from.

"She often talks about how she misses her boy Haz, but they speak regularly and he is
often here in Cape Town when no one else knows. Once he came over for the night, just for
a dinner party, without anyone realising.

"They're a really good, really sweet couple. She's been so upset all week after he had to
leave straight after her 21st birthday party.

"She is definitely moving to England - they've been planning it for ages. People say
they're young but lots of couples who meet at university at this age end up getting
married. I could definitely see it with those two."

It is a possibility that the Palace is taking seriously. Chelsy might once have been seen
as girlfriend rather than marriage material, the type that Harry would 'grow out of'. But
no longer. One senior Royal source told The Mail on Sunday: "The Palace is already taking
steps to make Chelsy's image more Royal. She and Harry are clearly in love and in this
for the long term.

"There is no question that Chelsy will have help from the Palace to adapt to her new life
in Britain. Talks are already taking place about how best to do this."

Yet perhaps it might not be such a great task. The rigours of Royal life are, of course,
difficult to come to terms with. But it would seem that if anyone is equipped to deal
with them, it is Chelsy Davy.
Prince Harry Enjoys Walking Around His Army Barracks Naked

London, England (BANG) - It has been claimed that Prince Harry likes to have some fun in
his military barracks by exposing himself. The young royal reportedly likes to parade the
corridors of his army barracks in the nude and get a good chuckle out of his fellow
soldiers.

The 22-year-old recently graduated from Sandhurst Military Training Academy and has since
moved to new barracks, where his naked antics have earned him the nickname "Dirty Harry."

According to Britain's Daily Star newspaper, a source said, "The boys think it's
hilarious to see Harry walking up and down the corridor. He's very confident around the
barracks."

The young prince, who has joined the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals, has reportedly
made the habit of walking to the shower block in the Wellington Barracks wearing nothing
but a very small towel.

Harry is said to be very proud of his body and not at all shy when it comes to stripping
off in the shower block.

Sources at the barracks say his fellow officers jokingly wolf whistle, as he walks down
the corridor.

Last week, it was revealed Harry is set to begin battle training, fueling speculation he
could be sent to war.

Earlier this year, Harry allegedly threatened to leave the army if he was banned from
fighting on the front line.

It has also been reported that if he is sent to battle, bodyguards would accompany him.

being Prince Harry's girlfriend. The South African beauty reportedly hates being famous
and often being the center of unwanted media attention.

The 21-year old - who has been dating the British royal for more than two years - is said
to be fed up with the constant attention she gets because of her high profile romance.

A friend of Chelsy's told Britain's The Mail On Sunday newspaper, "She has never once
tried to play on her celebrity. If anything, she doesn't like the fuss it causes. When
she is at University, people try to take photos of her on their phones, which really
upsets her."

Those close to the 21-year-old business student insist Chelsy is far from the "ditzy
blonde" she is often portrayed to be by the British press.

The source added, "When people meet her they usually admit to being quite shocked because

Prince William Set To Receive Knight Award

London, England (BANG) - According to reports, Prince William is set to receive a
honorary distinction next year. The British royal - son of late Princess Diana - is the
next in line to be a Knight Companion.

The 24-year-old prince has reportedly been selected by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth
II, to be awarded one of the oldest and most prestigious orders in the world - The Royal
Knights Of The Garter.

William is expected to receive the honor after he turns 25 next year.

There are currently just 25 full members of the order, including the queen. The monarch
chooses the 24 others - known as Knights and Ladies Companions - without the advice of
ministers.

A source told Britain's Mail On Sunday newspaper, "The queen joined at 21 and Prince
Charles at 19 so the consensus is that it is Prince William's time."

The source added, "The decision is the queen's alone and she is most picky about who can
join."

Meanwhile, William was photographed wearing glasses for the first time last week.

William - an officer cadet at Sandhurst Military Academy - wore dark-framed spectacles, a
camouflage jacket, a beret and regulation earmuffs as he watched a military firearms
display on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire.

Clarence House confirmed William does occasionally wear glasses as a back up for the
contact lenses he has worn for several years.

It is not known if the prince is near or far sighted.

upcoming reality TV series. MONARCHY, set to air on UK television network BBC1 next year
(07), will feature footage gained after following royals including QUEEN ELIZABETH II,

"Viewers will enjoy and unprecedented insight into the way in which the monarch carried

Kate was born to be queen, but what young man wouldn't prefer a wild night with Chelsy?

Chelsy Davy is a class act. The South African heiress girlfriend of our own Prince Harry
celebrated her recent 21st birthday by dragging him into the lavatory at her party,
whereupon, depending on which report you believe, either 'romance' or vomiting ensued,
and quite possibly both. Suddenly, Koo Stark, the actress whose soft-focus glamour shots
nixed her relationship with Prince Andrew back in the days when he was 'Randy Andy',
looks like Joan of Arc by comparison. In Chelsy's defence, it was a disabled loo, and
therefore nice and roomy (told you the girl had class). Nor are we certain that it was
she who was doing the dragging. However, there are greater issues at stake here. The
question being, not isn't Harry looking more and more like his dad every day? But rather,
why does Hal get the daredevil blonde goer, while big brother William seems to be
suffering slow death by middle-aged domestication with the admittedly 'lovely and
fragrant' Kate Middleton? Could it really be all about royal birth order?

Not so long ago, some of us had high hopes for Wills - not only as a hetero hunk, with
his shy boy, blue-eyed allure, but also as a gay icon in the making, just like mum. He
was blond, he was beautiful, he was spuriously linked to Britney Spears. However, since
then, Wills has let the side down a bit by settling down with a lovely suitable girl,
which just isn't on. Not that there is anything wrong with Kate Middleton per se, but
princes are like members of boy bands - it should be against the law for them to have any
kind of serious relationship until the female populace has grown tired of fancying them.
Now here is Harry whooping it up with a racy blonde who looks like she'd be unafraid to
do tequila shots from a variety of unusual surfaces. Meanwhile, William, only a couple of
years his senior, has the haunted look of a young man forced to discuss the merits of
Tupperware before his time. Now, who is fulfilling his public duty as 'royal pin-up' here?

Poor Wills, you think, and indeed poor Kate, barely into their twenties and already
seemingly groomed to die premature mental deaths from rigid royal protocol. It has been
remarked to me that it's easier for Harry, as he is the second son and therefore has more
leeway in his choice of mates than his older brother, as Randy Andy did. While this may
be so, things get a little more complicated when you start considering Kate and Chelsy's
motivations in romancing the princes. For them, it probably has less to do with the
Madonna/whore issue than the greatest royal lottery of all - wife or mistress? Which is
how you get girls such as Ms Middleton - sugar sweet and squeaky clean, and careful not
to frighten the corgis. A born royal wife if ever you saw one, well mannered to the point
of invisibility, an icon of suitability.

Then there is Chelsy - another type, an over-emotional, mouthy
can't-hold-her-drink/I'm-going-to-move-to-Britain-because-I-love you' type. An anti-Kate,
who seems to be on a one-woman mission to prove just how unsuitable she is. To all
intents and purposes, it's a bit like having a South African Lily Allen storming the
palace and goosing the second in line to the throne. Or it could be slightly more
poignant than that - maybe Chelsy started off wanting to be suitable, perhaps she tried
her very best, but gave up when the camera lenses of the paparazzi started zooming up her
mini skirts 10 times a day. When they caught her in 'less than suitable' states in bars.
'Oh to hell with this, I've already blown it,' she probably thought. 'I may as well have
some fun. Does anyone know the way to the nearest disabled toilet?'

Then again, it could be that Chelsy's very lack of suitability could end up making her
very suitable indeed, at least in Harry's eyes. After all, ask any young man to explain
what he doesn't like about wild young blondes and you would be entering into the shortest
conversation of your life. Moreover, for all her faults, Chelsy seems to understand that
she and her prince are young and, while the elixir of youth still pours, it is their
privilege (nay, their job) to make howling public mistakes. Compare this clumsy-footed
good humour, this hilarious wrongness, to what appears to be the careful tiptoeing of
'wifely' Kate towards the throne. No wonder all we other 'unsuitables' (proudly
self-proclaimed or labelled so by others against our will) are cheering Ms Davy on. While
Kate Middleton types may be every man's future, the Chelsy Davys of this world are every
young man's dream.

PRINCE WILLIAM has been caught on camera wearing glasses for the first time.

The second-in-line to the throne wore the dark-framed spectacles yesterday while at a
demonstration of military firepower on Salisbury Plain near Warminster, Wiltshire.

The Prince, 24, an officer cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, was
photographed seated in a grandstand with other military personnel. The Prince was staring
intently through the modern-style glasses at the display while wearing a dark-coloured
beret, ear protectors and a camouflage jacket.

The Prince has worn contact lenses for several years and uses his glasses as a back-up.

It is not known if he is long or short-sighted.

GUESTS howled with laughter at a 21st birthday bash for Prince Harry’s girlfriend Chelsy Davy — as it was revealed he compares her to George “Dubya” Bush.

Harry, 22, even has a poster of the gaffe-prone US President’s bloopers on his wall to remind him of dizzy Chelsy.

The blonde student’s “Chelsyisms” were revealed in touching speeches by her brother and two girlfriends in Cape Town, South Africa.

Party guests cracked up as they told how she believed MAMMOTHS still live and asked why BUFFALO don’t eat DEER.

It also emerged that Harry fell for Chelsy — who he calls “Chedda” — after she did impressions of comic Ricky Gervais.

There was a Roaring Twenties theme for the boozy £20,000 party at the city’s Beluga restaurant.

Harry, dressed as gangster Al Capone, whirled Chelsy, wearing a 1920s flapper outfit, around the dancefloor.

One guest said: “Harry told everyone she was his gangster’s moll. He kept sidling up to her to whisper ‘You dirty rat’ in her ear — just like in the movies.”

Chelsy’s brother Shaun, 20, said: “My sister is famous for her Chelsyisms. Harry always says she is as gaffe-prone as George Bush — but much better looking.

“Last month she said, ‘Shaun, are woolly mammoths extinct?’ I said, ‘You can’t be serious’. But she was totally convinced mammoths were still alive.

“She asked our father why grass-eating buffalo didn’t eat deer when they got hungry. That’s Chelsy and we love her for it.”

Shaun also said his sister has such an appalling driving record that pals refuse to let her drive.

He said: “In a year Chelsy has had no fewer than four car crashes. She rings me and Harry and tells us it isn’t her fault.

“She believes city planners in Cape Town move poles and lampposts just to make her crash.

“Driving with her is like jumping with a parachute. Once you realise your life is no longer in your own hands you enjoy the thrill — but on the ground you promise never to do it again.”

Chelsy’s two best girlfriends Ali and Kirky joined in the teasing tributes.

Ali said: “We all know Chelsy has the memory of a goldfish — so if she remembers your name tonight, then congratulations.

“And, Chels, your Ricky Gervais impersonations have got to stop. They’re not funny to anyone but Harry — who says they were the thing that attracted him to you in the first place.”

In a dig at red-haired Harry, Ali added: “If you’ve seen Ricky Gervais, it may give a fair indication of where Chelsy’s standards in men lie . . . ginger. Yes Chels, ginger. Not strawberry blond . . . ”

Kirky spoke of Chelsy’s love of partying. She said: “If you’ve encountered Chels on a cocktail night, you’ve probably been forced to gyrate on a table.

“It’s puzzling she attracts so much male attention — considering that after 2am her dancing looks like Britney Spears in a frenzy.”

In a jokey farewell to Chelsy, who is moving to England to study, Kirky told of “a million things I’ll miss — your deformed toe we named ET, the food that ends up on your face rather than your mouth.”

Harry later had to whisk tipsy Chelsy to the toilets — not for a romp, as has been suggested, but to care for her as she threw up.

As she was driven away from the party early she lay slumped across Harry’s lap.

A pal said: “Chelsy was more drunk than I’ve ever seen her.

“She downed shot after shot of Sambuca and kept loudly telling Harry she loved him.”

The bash was thrown by Chelsy’s dad Charles and mum Beverly. Charles, who runs a Zimbabwe game reserve, called Chelsy “the best diamond in the mine”.

Harry is delighted Chelsy has a post-graduate place at Bristol University.

Chelsy, who is finishing a business degree in Cape Town, will be just 27 miles from his home at Highgrove, Gloucs.

Princess Michael of Kent has broken one of the unspoken royal rules by boasting of her
children's academic achievements.

It may be true but perhaps it would have been more diplomatic not to point out that her
children were "more educated than their cousins".

Lord Frederick Windsor and Lady Gabriella Windsor both have strong academic backgrounds
but their mother's boast is the kind of comment that has helped gain her the nickname
"Princess Pushy".

The Royal Family has never been keen to talk about its academic achievements.

The Queen, who was educated by her governess, Marion Crawford, has no formal
qualifications. Her children have a clutch of low-grade A-levels and average degrees
between them.

Her grandchildren have little more to sing about, with Peter Phillips's sports science
degree from Exeter the best of the achievements, apart from Prince William, who has two
As and a C at A-level and an upper second class degree.

However, Lord Frederick, 27, known as Freddie, a former King's Scholar at Eton, achieved
a 2:1 in Classics at Oxford. By that reckoning, he would be most likely to win a battle
of wits.

His sister, known as Ella, 25, also achieved a good degree from Brown University, part of
America's Ivy League, in comparative literature.

The faux pas came from Princess Michael's eagerness to defend her children.

"They're good-looking, they come from a good family and they have good degrees from top
universities," Princess Michael told an American interviewer.

Freddie and Gabriella Windsor: ‘more educated’

"They are more educated than their cousins. No children in the Royal Family have got as
good degrees as they've got."

The royal biographer, Robert Lacey, said the comments would "not make her very popular".

He added: "It is most unroyal to be highly educated and most unroyal for one's mother to
brag about it."

Ella, who has written for The Daily Telegraph, has talked of her horror at the rowdiness
of American university life.

However, she said she appreciated the broad education it offered her, including courses
in "Latino Film" and "Love and Adultery in Russia". She worked on the university
newspaper as the arts and entertainment critic, where she was known as something of a
perfectionist.

"My mother thought it the best way to develop my academic interests," she said of Brown.
"Being overseas, she thought it would allow me more privacy."

Freddie's background has been somewhat more volatile. As he sought to shed a mummy's boy
image, he took up modelling and partying and admitted taking cocaine. But even he is now
taking life more seriously, having recently left his job with the film production company
Brass Hat to take up a job in private banking with JP Morgan.

His parents, meanwhile, have been busy selling off the contents of the family house,
Nether Lypiatt, which they sold in April for £5.75 million, partly to help their children
buy their own flats.

• The school attended by the Prince of Wales is spending thousands of pounds wooing the
parents of prospective pupils.

Gordonstoun, faced with a drop in the number of pupils being admitted at the age of 13,
is offering all-expenses paid trips, including air travel, to attract new boarders. It is
particularly interested in keeping up its quota of pupils from England and Wales.

Mark Pyper, the headmaster, said it was prepared to pay for travel and accommodation to
encourage parents to look round.
War games to prepare Harry

PRINCE Harry is to start battle training — giving the strongest hint yet that he WILL
fight in the front line.

The 22-year-old Royal will later this week join a 1,000-strong battle group preparing for
New Year deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan.

The move brings the prince’s wish to fight a step closer.

Earlier this year, he is believed to have even threatened to QUIT the Army if he can’t
see action.

Cornet Wales — as Harry is known — will spend the next two weeks in the Scottish Borders
commanding 12 men from his Blues and Royals regiment.

They have been selected to form part of the battle group known as 1 Mech Brigade, which
is due to relieve other British troops serving out in the Middle East.

The secret exercises, called Operation Wessex Warrior, will continue on Salisbury Plain,
Wilts, where Harry will wear a special laser suit to show if he has been ‘shot’.

A source said last night: “This is Harry’s first role since becoming a fully-fledged
officer in the Blues and Royals.

“It is therefore very significant that Harry has been told to join others preparing for
overseas duty.

“There are very good operational reasons why Harry would not take part in the build-up
unless he was actually going to be posted with everyone else.

“As far as his colleagues are concerned, this is proof he will be allowed to fight.”

Harry’s Met Police minders have been “sounded out” about being posted in Iraq or
Afghanistan.

Although they are unlikely to go into the front line, bodyguards will be expected to
travel with him.

There has been speculation that Harry’s status as a senior Royal will stop him seeing
action. Clarence House refuses to rule out the possibility he will fight.

For his part, Harry is determined to be allowed to fight.

Last year, he stated that he wouldn’t drag his “sorry ass” through Army training at
Sandhurst only to be left at home.

The source added: “Operation Wessex Warrior is the biggest exercise of its type for the
regiment in many months.

“It is vital to learn from mistakes now rather than risk lives once we are in a war zone
early next year.

“Harry is desperate to get his teeth into the task ahead and he will be under
considerable pressure to prove his mettle. The fact that they will be wearing the special
suits will only add to the pressure.

“They will be all too aware that next time they are shot it will be for real.”

Young love triumphed this weekend when Chelsy Davy agreed to move 10,000 km to England,
to be with her royal beau, Prince Harry.

The Prince and his Zimbabwe-born girlfriend have spent the past year apart after Harry
enlisted in the British Army and Davy returned to South Africa to complete her politics
degree.

Davy, 21, told close friends she would move to England next year to study at Bristol
University, where she will complete a postgraduate degree in politics, reported Britain's
Daily Mail.

The decision will be welcome news to Prince Harry, as Davy had previously said she would
not move to England because of the dismal weather.

Despite multiple rumours of infidelity this year, Harry proved his devotion to Davy last
week, begging his commanding officers for leave to attend her 21st birthday celebration
in South Africa.

Once there, the Prince spent much of the night canoodling with Davy and telling people
"She's so hot. Isn't she beautiful?" a partygoer told the Daily Mail.

In keeping with the Roaring Twenties theme, Harry wore a pinstripe gangster suit and
trilby hat. Later, he removed his shirt to reveal a customised, black T-shirt with the
words "Official Bodyguard of Miss CD - 13th October - Cape Town" on the front.

After dinner, Davy made a simple speech, during which she said: "My darling boy Haz,

Prince Harry returns to regimental barracks

PRINCE Harry is ready for action after completing six-months of training in armoured
warfare at Bovington Camp.

Second Lieutenant Wales was almost 13 when he was snapped peering out from under a
commander's helmet, smiling shyly aboard a Scimitar tank in Army fatigues as he embarked
on his first public engagement.

Now the third-in-line to the throne, who joined the Household Cavalry after graduating
from Sandhurst, has fulfilled his childhood dream of a military life.

Having completed his training at Bovington where he learnt how to lead a troop of
armoured reconnaissance fighting vehicles, the 22-year-old will return to his regiment's
barracks in Windsor.

A spokesman from Clarence House said: "The prince has now finished his training at
Bovington and will return to his regiment before embarking on the next stage of his
career."

But despite having reputedly threatened to quit the Army unless he was allowed to fight
alongside his men it appears the prince may now be denied the chance to serve his country
in a war zone.

Last week military chiefs revealed the warrior prince would not be allowed to serve on
the frontline in the war in Afghanistan.

Military chiefs fear the young prince would become a target for Taliban fighters as a
high profile trophy putting the lives of his comrades at risk.

Unsurprisingly the partying prince's stay at Bovington was not without incident.

In the summer the prince sparked a media frenzy when he rented an isolated cottage in a
place called Shaggs where he stayed with his glamorous girlfriend Chelsy Davy.

William, who is third in line to the throne, has been dating Kate, 24, for five years.
The couple met at St. Andrews University in Scotland, where they were both studying.

The dukedom would be a temporary title for William, until he inherits his father's title,
the Prince of Wales, when Charles ascends the throne.

The last Duke of Cambridge, who died in 1904, outraged his family by secretly marrying an
actress.

Prince William is said to be under increasing pressure to propose to Kate, despite
stating in interviews that he doesn't plan to marry until he is 28 years old.

In August, the couple visited Harewood Park House, in Herefordshire, amid reports that
the mansion is to become their martial home. The residence is being rebuilt by Prince
Charles' Duchy of Cornwall estate and is due for completion in 2010, the year that
William celebrates his 28th birthday.

A resident of the area said, "William has told farming friends in the county that he
wants to settle at Harewood Park. He goes to shooting parties nearby and knows that the
estate offers him lots of privacy."

Kate is said to have taken a keen interest in the rebuilding of the country house, which

For the playboy prince and his busty blonde girlfriend spent EIGHT MINUTES together in a toilet at her 21st birthday party after SHE dragged HIM in.
Walking hand in hand, the pair left the dancefloor at 1.51am, reappearing at 1.59am looking flustered and slightly dishevelled.

The photographer who took our exclusive pictures said: "I saw both of them going towards the toilets.
"Chelsy went to the disabled loos first but Harry wanted to go to the normal toilets.
"She pulled him back into the disabled toilets. They clearly went into the same toilet.
"No one went in or out for eight minutes until they emerged together. I saw it clearly."
And one partygoer confirmed: "The pair suddenly turned up near the toilets but soon disappeared from sight.

"Harry hasn't seen his girlfriend since she was over in the summer. They probably have a lot of catching up to do.

Harry, 22, had jetted 6,000 miles for Chelsy's bash at the trendy Beluga restaurant in Cape Town, South Africa.
The prince, who this week qualified as an armoured reconnaissance troop leader after four and a half months training in Dorset and Wiltshire, had to beg his commanding officers for time off.
He arrived for the Roaring Twenties-themed party in an Al Capone-style hat and shirt with braces at around 7.30pm.
He later changed into a T-shirt made specially for the occasion bearing one of his nicknames– Spike—and branding himself the "Official Bodyguard Of Miss Chelsy Davy."
On the back was a picture of Chelsy with the words: "Hands off china!!"
An onlooker said: "His T-shirt said he was Chelsy's bodyguard for the night but accompanying her to the loo is surely beyond the call of duty!"
Harry has voiced fears that the couple's long-distance relationship will suffer as a result of his military career.
Despite his best efforts to convince Chelsy to move to England after she finishes her commerce degree at Cape Town university, she has decided to stay in South Africa.

Harry, 22, made her howl with laughter at the Roaring Twenties-themed party by telling guests she was “his gangsta’s moll”. And blonde Chelsy — dressed as a 1920s flapper — told pals: “Harry is my best birthday present ever.”

It was a definite improvement on his last fancy dress outfit — a Nazi uniform. More than 160 guests turned up at student Chelsy’s £20,000 party at exclusive Cape Town restaurant Beluga. Chelsy looked stunning in a green dress. Harry wore a white Fedora hat.

A pal said: “Harry sidled up to her and whispered, ‘You dirty rat’. I think he got Humphrey Bogart mixed up with Al Capone, but no one cared.”

Staff spent eight hours decorating the hall with 1920s icons such as Bogart, Lauren Bacall and James Cagney.

Harry, who reportedly will now not be allowed to serve as a front line soldier due to his royal rank, is expected to spend a few days with his girlfriend before returning to his regiment. This summer, amid reports that they might have split up, they were photographed kissing at the Cartier Polo International Tournament and she also joined him as his guest of honour when he passed out at Sandhurst in April. Some royal insiders claim the relationship is not regarded as favourably by the Queen and Prince Charles as Prince William's with Kate Middleton.

Miss Middleton has met the Queen, joined William and Prince Charles on their annual ski break, accompanied the prince to the Duchess of Cornwall's daughter Laura's wedding and appeared on the royal balcony at Cheltenham. PRINCE Harry has jetted 6,000 miles to beg girlfriend Chelsy Davy to come and live in England. The besotted Royal arrived in South Africa yesterday to attend her 21st birthday party.

It will be the first time he has seen Chelsy since she was robbed at gunpoint in a Cape Town bar last month. Harry hopes his face-to-face plea will prompt Chelsy to move here as soon as she finishes her studies at the end of next month. It is understood he will even offer to rent her a luxury London pad. But her pals say Harry, 22, faces an uphill task persuading the feisty Zimbabwean blonde to brave the English weather.

One said: “It is impossible for him to leave England, so the ball is in Chelsy’s court.

“He has delighted her by flying all this way for the birthday — but if he hopes it will help persuade her to move, he will be sadly mistaken. Chelsy hates the cold. None of us expects her to go.

“She also calls all the shots and Harry just can’t get enough of her.”

Prince Harry is set to command about a dozen soldiers after completing his latest round of training. The prince learned armoured tactics and how to fix a Scimitar tank and fire its cannon, during four-and-a-half months at Dorset's Bovington Camp.

Harry, 22, a Cornet in the Blues and Royals, has qualified as an armoured reconnaissance troop leader. He is now expected to return to the Household Cavalry Regiment's Combermere barracks in Windsor.

'Range of deployment'

The prince also spent five weeks at Warminster taking part in exercises and trained on live firing ranges at Lulworth.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "He'll take command of a troop of soldiers and armoured vehicles and undertake routine exercises, training and sport.

"That's the normal routine life in barracks."

Harry, a Cornet in the Blues and Royals, is hoping to use his new skills on the front line if his squadron is deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq. But reports have suggested that the Army is reluctant to send Harry, third in line to the throne, into a war zone. No decision has been made on future deployments, but the Ministry of Defence admitted there could be situations where it could be too dangerous for Harry to serve.

"The intention is that he will undertake the fullest range of deployment, but on occasion there may be some circumstances in which his overt presence might attract additional attention that could lead to an exponential rise in the risk to those he commands," the spokesman said.
I'D LOVE TO SHOOT WILLS' ENGAGEMENT SAYS MARIO TESTINO

The world's leading fashion photographer, Mario Testino, has already got his eye on shooting the official engagement picture of Kate Middleton and Prince William – once the happy event is announced, of course. "I would love to do that," the high profile snapper told a British newspaper this week. "Let's pray for that."

It wouldn't be the first time Mario has captured members of the royal family on film. He's already renowned for his now-iconic portraits of the late Princess Diana, as well as his images of her sons William and Harry.

The Peruvian photographer is apparently already acquainted with the young Princes' girlfriends. "I've met both Kate and Chesy Davy," he told the Daily Express. "They came to see my recent exhibition at Kensington Palace. They were both nice girls."

PARTY-mad Prince Harry knocked back STRAWBERRY AND VANILLA vodka shots as he celebrated the end of a tough military training course. The royal rebel and 28 mates started the evening with a meal at a posh restaurant before hitting the booze at a rock pub.

Harry and his friends downed the shots — known as Twisties — before going clubbing in Trowbridge, Wilts. The third in line to the throne partied the night away before being escorted out by bodyguards looking bleary-eyed. Graham Mehta, 36, of The Mill restaurant in Rode where the group started their night, said Harry was a good tipper.

He revealed: “They left a good amount of notes with his gran’s face on them. We’d have them back any time.”

The handsome royal is reportedly set to become a park ranger and take after his grandfather Prince Phillip as official ranger of Windsor Great Park when he completes his three-year army commission. Like his younger brother, Prince Harry, 22, William will join the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals regiment after completing his officer training at Sandhurst Military Academy in December. However, unlike Harry, William is not planning on embarking on a long-term army career and, instead, he wants to take a part-time role managing the 5,000-acre Berkshire estate. A friend told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, "If truth be told William would love to spend the rest of his life working as a gentleman farmer. He's a country boy at heart and it is where his interest lies. Taking over from Prince Phillip as ranger of Windsor Great Park is the perfect job for him."

The friend added, "William is very close to his grandfather and will enjoy learning from him. He won't be doing it full-time but it is something he will very much enjoy."

Windsor Great Park has become a favorite hunting ground for the royal family and attracts over two million visitors a year. A Clarence House spokesman said, "Any discussion of Prince's William's future plans is speculative at this stage."

PRINCE Harry celebrated in style by sampling the nightlife in west Wiltshire to mark the end of a five-week stay in Warminster.

The third in line to the throne has been based at Battlesbury Barracks in Boreham Road while completing an Army training course.

The 21-year-old, known for his love of partying, sampled a range of nightspots on Thursday night, even indulging in some strawberry and vanilla vodka shots in one pub.

The night started with a meal with 28 course mates, including bodyguards, then the group went on to a pub for a few beers and shots before ending up in Trowbridge nightclub, Just So in Castle Street.

Graham Mehta, 36, manager of The Mill at Rode, said: "He came here for a meal with his mates - we didn't know it was him at first.

"Our barman thought he was a lookalike - then they called him Harry and the penny dropped."

Harry spent two and a half hours chatting to friends over a meal of autumn vegetable soup and baked chicken with lentils and left staff at the restaurant a handsome tip.

Mr Mehta said: "They left a good amount of notes - all with his grandmother's face on them.

"They were all very charming and witty - we'd have them back anytime."

The group then moved on to JB's pub in Warminster for a few pints of Fosters and some vodka shots.

Oliver Clark, barman, said: "He had one of our Twisties which is a strawberry and vanilla vodka shot. There was a big group of them, and two bodyguards - they seemed very pleasant. Not many people noticed them at first - I didn't recognise him to begin with.

Britain's Prince Harry may soon be strutting his stuff on the cover of a famous magazine and find himself as the latest pin-up of girls' pastel-colored bedroom walls. The 22-year-old prince is reportedly in secret talks with GQ magazine to be featured in one of their issues sometime next year.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "Harry's pals have been ribbing him that it's always his elder brother William who is seen as the good looking one out if them both. One of his mates told him he should 'sex up' a bit and do a shoot for the American edition of GQ magazine and Harry is hoping it will come off."

The source revealed Harry plans to pose in front of an abandoned warehouse in New York after being made over by a top stylist. The pictures will be accompanied by comments from Harry on his favorite designers and clubs. The source added, "Nothing cheesy is planned. Just a classic look, but definitely something uber cool. Everyone in the Sates absolutely adores both him and William. The magazine would be a huge hit, that's for sure."

It has also been reported that Harry is planning a spectacular New Year's Eve party in his girlfriend's Chelsy Davy's hometown of Cape Town, South Africa.

A source said, "Harry had hired an amazing venue for him, Chelsy and dozens of friends to see in 2007 in style. He is pulling out all the stops to make sure his New Year's Eve definitely goes off with a bang and will be one he will never forget."

PRINCE William splashed out on dinner for his girlfriend and pals - at a high street pizza chain. The heir to the throne astonished diners at PizzaExpress in Oxford when he and Kate Middleton turned up to celebrate a friend's graduation.

The 24-year-old, who booked a table for nine, chose a £6.95 Fiorentina pizza from the menu. To wash it down he ordered a bottle of the house Chardonnay - the cheapest on the wine list - at £11.55.

Two bodyguards kept a watchful eye from a nearby table as the royal party tucked in. William picked up the tab and thanked staff on the way out.

"They were very relaxed and just got on with enjoying their meal," a fellow diner said.

"Not everyone recognised him and there was no fuss. He was just like anyone else in the restaurant and seemed to have a great time."

Last weekend, Wills spent the evening at a bingo hall in Reading.

Capt Ward, of the Adjutant General’s Corps, was later removed from his post by Sandhurst commandant Major General Peter Pearson and switched to a desk job.

An insider at the Surrey academy said: “His feet didn’t touch the ground when a complaint was made.”

Capt Ward was one of 40 officers in New College, where William is trained.

The source added: “It is very embarrassing for the academy because Sandhurst instructors are supposed to be the cream of the Army’s officer class and it is extremely rare for one to be removed from his post.”

Last night a Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed there was “an incident following a social event” but would not comment further.

In August, Prince William and Prince Harry’s sergeant major at Sandhurst was removed from his post for alleged verbal bullying.

Two soldiers have been charged with raping a 17-year-old girl in London's Green Park on Saturday.

Trooper Adam Bray, 20, and Trooper David Wright, 25, were arrested on Tuesday at the Blues and Royals' central London barracks.

The soldiers serve in the same Army regiment as Prince Harry.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the two men will appear in custody at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning. They are each charged with three counts of rape in connection with the alleged attack on the teenager.

The Blues and Royals, together with the Life Guards, make up the Household Cavalry, the Army's oldest regiment. They have two reconnaissance squadrons based at Combermere Barracks in Windsor, Berkshire, and a mounted squadron at barracks near Hyde Park in London.

According to the Ministry of Defence, both the soldiers charged with rape are from the mounted unit - the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.

Prince Harry is due to rejoin the Blues and Royals this month after completing his troop commander's course at Bovington Camp in Dorset. His brother Prince William, currently at Sandhurst, is also due to follow him into the same regiment next year.

He played alongside stunned regulars after registering in the name William Harry at the Mecca hall near his Sandhurst military academy. Wills, 24, paid £5 for a book of five tickets after becoming a club member — but failed to land any of the £20 prizes.

One regular joked: “If he had won, we were wondering if he would have shouted ‘palace’ instead of ‘house’!”

Army officer cadet Wills spent nearly an hour playing bingo at the grey concrete club in Reading, Berks, as he and ten pals let off steam after a five-hour terrorism lecture. At first he tried to hide under a baseball cap and denied being the heir to the throne. But eventually he came clean and chatted to elderly regulars in the foyer. A fellow player said: “Initially he told someone he was a lookalike but his mates all started laughing so he had to own up.

“He was very friendly, talking and joking with people. When someone asked him to sign the back of their bingo card he borrowed a pen from the girl behind the bar and signed a couple of cards.”

The bingo night out was originally suggested as a joke by one of William’s pals after lectures finished at 6pm last Friday.

But according to a Sandhurst source, the Prince amazed fellow cadets by replying: “That’s perfect! Bingo it is.”

The source said: “None of the cadets thought William was seriously agreeing and they bet him he’d bottle out before they got there.

“But William went through with it. They thought it was hilarious and had a great time.”

Wills left at around 9.30pm and was later seen knocking back booze in three bars in the town, dubbed Britain’s “chav” capital. Onlookers told how the high-spirited Prince chatted to other revellers and even showed his credit card to one girl when she asked him to prove his identity. Last night Mecca Bingo — which has five million members playing at 118 UK clubs — declined to discuss its new Royal addition.

A spokesman said: “Due to reasons of confidentiality, we cannot comment on individual members.

However, we can tell you that bingo appeals to people from every walk of life.”

A Clarence House spokesman confirmed: “Prince William made a private visit to the bingo. He was on a fun night out with a small group of fellow Sandhurst cadets at the time.”

Tom Sykes, "a former Page Sixer", is a former Eton College classmate of Prince Harry's and is spilling everything in his new book, "What Did I Do Last Night? A Drunkard's Tale."

Sykes failed to graduate from Eton College due to alcohol related incidents he claims stem from the reward system at the boarding school, which revolves around alcohol.

Sykes writes, "In England, the legal drinking age is 18, but at Eton College you are allowed in the school bar, which is called 'Tap' at 16. The school circumvented the licensing laws by claiming Tap was a private club. Technically you were only allowed two pints of beer. In reality, you had to fall over before they cut you off."

The second-in-line to the throne used the name William Harry to become a member at the Mecca hall and paid £5 for a book of tickets, the Sun said. But the paper claimed he did not win any of the £20 prizes.

The bingo was apparently suggested by the Prince's fellow cadets at Sandhurst as a joke.

A spokeswoman for Clarence House said: "I can confirm that he was there, but as he was on a private business I cannot discuss it any further."

Last month Clarence House announced that Prince William would continue his Army training in Dorset as he followed his brother, Prince Harry, into the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals.

Wills, 24, and other officer cadets are kitted out in riot gear during the pretend peacekeeping patrol. It is part of a ten-day exercise near Sandhurst military academy in Surrey. Gurkhas play the role of a baying mob who hurl “rocks”.

An insider said: “Spuds are deemed a little safer than rocks.

“But if anyone suffers a direct hit, even a potato can be very painful. Trainees are expected to crack under the pressure.”

If Wills does well it will help his chance of winning Sandhurst’s Sword of Honour prize — given to the top performer on the gruelling 44-week course. But he is unlikely to get special treatment. Prince Harry, 22, got a pelting when he did the exercise in February.
