Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married in the summer of 1981. In June of 1982, Diana gave birth to Prince William and in 1984 she
fulfilled all of her "royal duty" by giving birth to Prince Harry--the heir and the spare. From the beginning, both boys had very complicated with both parents. Charles was seen by the media as the disciplinarian and
symbolically stood for tradition and no-nonsense. Diana, however, was the caring parent and represented all that was "normal". Diana would take them to the amusement park or to McDonald's.
Both parents tried to give their sons as normal upbringing as possible. This was most evident in their selection of schools. Charles was privately tutored for years; William and Harry both attended school with other children. The parents chose Ludgrove instead of Cheam School because Ludgrove allowed its students to come home on weekends.
William and Harry were exceedingly close to both parents. When Diana was killed in the Paris car crash of 1997, it devastated both of them. In the wake of her death, the media saw the more caring side of Prince Charles. This was made evident in the April 2000
photo call at the Kloster's resort in Switzerland. William and Harry playful joked with Charles and William ruffled Charles' hair.
Many people wonder if the boys are Spencer or Windsor. Diana and Charles can both be seen Wills and Harry. William favors Diana's look while Harry has his dad's. Both have her sense of humor and
liveliness...but both have the "Windsor" showmanship when it comes to the public.
